Day Ninety-Five

(Apology in advance that these are blurry.  I didn't have time to set my settings because it happened so fast!)

You know the term people use about "a dog chasing its own tail" referring to people who just don't get anywhere?  Well, dogs don't really chase their own tails right?  I mean, what dog does this & really thinks it's chasing something else?

Meet Balin.

I can't tell you how many times Jeremy & I have stood at the glass door & watched him chase his own tail....and growl & bark at it.  And not for just a few seconds either.  Like minutes!  It's like he really thinks it's something else that he needs to catch.

First, he sees it move out of the corner of his eye & he gets real still & gives it the side-eye (so he can sneak up on on his own tail, you know?)

And then he just starts snapping at it & goes around......

.....and around.....

...and around until he's gnawing on it & it can't flick away from him anymore.

So tonight he comes in with me when I get his food (since we keep it inside) and he was so excited that his tail was just a-waggin'!  So, of course, he sees it & goes to town.

He is one special dog, for sure.  But we still love him!

By the way.....as I was writing this post I got up & saw Balin laying on his side & his tail was flicking up.  So of course he snaps at it & it keeps flicking.  He keeps going after it until he gets it, yanks up & flips himself on his back, stands up & looks around wondering what happened.

Oh I wish I knew what was going on in his head!
