Day Two Hundred Nine
Jeremy found the wasp nest hiding in our mailbox & pulled it out & dissected it. There were seven little larva in there. Seven little wasps just waiting to grow & sting me when I want to get my mail!
Dad & Brett came by to pick something up so Brett got to see Uncle Jeremy remove the squirming larva with tweezers from the nest. Creepy & cool at the same time. I couldn't get over how much they wiggled when they were out of the nest. Shiver.

Day Two Hundred Eight
Twice this week I went to get the mail & a wasp flew out when I opened the mailbox. The first time I just thought the wasp was stuck in there.....but when it happened again I knew it wasn't an accident.
He's a dead wasp now.

Day Two Hundred Six
Thank to Balin & our neighbor's dog, we now have a multi-colored fence.
Balin & our neighbors dog like to sniff, whine & pee on each other through this one spot in the fence that separates our yards. Well, one afternoon while I'm sleeping (just so happened to be the afternoon I came home from work sick) my doorbell rings & I see it's my neighbor. So I open the door & the conversation goes like this:
Neighbor: "Did you know your dog got out & is on my back porch?"
Me: "Uh...no. Oh no, I'm sorry."
N: "It's ok. He doesn't have a leash on, but will he come if you call him?"
Me: Still not awake & my head is pounding, "Um, yes....let me get my...uh...shoes on..."
So, I get my flip flops on, walk out in the blinding sun, around the house & to their backyard & call Balin. He comes running over without a care in the world & I'm still not awake enough to talk in a disciplining tone to him when I see how he got through the fence. The spot where he & the neighbors dog pee on each other is totally rotten & he slipped through there. Gross. So we're talking about fixing the fence & just blocking it for now when my neighbors daughter come out & makes this statement while giggling:
"Mom, he left a HUGE dump on our back porch!"
That's my classy dog.

Erin did such a good job planning Lainey's birthday. All of the decor was so very cute! It was an ice cream sundae party with all kinds of toppings! I could have just taken one of these bowls & eaten that by myself!

Sweetie's Bakery made Daddy's cake for his party & we were so pleased with them. Not only did it taste so very good (they have their own recipe for buttercream icing that has been around for years & is amazing!), it looked awesome! It is exactly what my sister's & I were thinking for a classy but fun cake!

Tonight we celebrated Daddy's 60th birthday! Family & some of his close friends came to help us celebrate & give him a special scrapbook my sister's & I made for him. We sent out a lot of letters & had people write their favorite memory or something special about dad & we put it in a scrapbook form. I think he was really surprised to see just how many letters he got!
At the end of the letter we asked that the person choose one word that best describes my daddy. The number one word was Caring, & that is absolutely right! The next two words that a lot of people wrote were Selfless & Honest. So true!

Sunday we left the mountains behind & drove home. It was a sad day.

Saturday we drove to a replica of an old farm in the mountains. The house, barn & other buildings were truly old but they were not all found in the same place. They transported all these old, fragile buildings to one spot to replicate how living on a farm back in the 17-1800's would be.
Man, we have it so easy now.

On Thursday we all went to a river pretty close to the cabin to tube. It was so cold, but so refreshing!
After tubing several times, the kids played in the water while we took a break under the tree.

Happy 4th of July! In the evening we went down to Dillsboro, a historic little town on the way to the cabin. After eating dinner we sat the lawn in front of the Christmas Shop & waited for the fireworks to start. But we did not just sit.........oh no. Much more happened.
There was a funny/awkward karaoke gig set up near us called "It's 'Potty' Time" (we have no idea why it was Potty...confusing) & we convinced the guys to go sing a song from "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?" Oh.My.Word. SO FUNNY! I wish I could post the video! Jeremy was the least excited to do it, but he was the loudest one up there & even busted a couple of moves! When they finished the song people were actually yelling "Encore!" Ha!

Welp....it's been a busy July as you'll see. I haven't been taking photos every single day, but I have so many from our vacation & my dad's party that it will make up for it!
We took a last minute trip to North Carolina with two of my sisters & their families at the beginning of July, so the majority of the photos will come from that. We had a great time & can't wait to do it again!

Day One Hundred Eighty Four
I still can't get over how pretty these roses are. One of my favorite things about growing things is seeing it start from a tiny little seed grow into something like this.
The almost symmetrical beauty of the petals & the smell are making this rose the centerpiece of my kitchen.

We fed the ducks tonight as we went on our bike ride. I can't get over how funny the red faced one looks!

This view never gets old. Balin has always perked up his ears & has gone searching whenever you say, "Where's the squirrel?!" So cute.
Well now that he knows where the squirrels live, whenever you make that comment to him he looks up in the trees & then starts doing this....
Ha! And he'll stay there for a while, too! Sometimes we say "where's the squirrels" even though we haven't seen them because we think he's so funny :)
